Municipality of Rhodes represents the Greek island of Rhodes, situated in the South Aegean Region
Rhodes’s development strategy is primarily based on the promotion of the sustainable development in the area. For this purpose, the municipality is actively engaged in the HABITAT Agenda, Smart Cities & initiatives as well as Mayors Covenant, striving to identify local sustainability priorities in the areas of environment, economic prosperity and community well-being, and to implement long-term action plans. Rhodes municipality has participated in a number of projects within the framework of Community programmes and initiatives.

Rhodes municipality has participated in a number of projects within the framework of Community programmes and initiatives. More specifically, over the last years rhodes has participated in the following projects:
HERMES Harnessing Employment Regional Mobility and Entrepreneurship in South – Eastern Europe, DG EV LARGEMENT. Duration of the project: 2005-2006. The programme was developed to train socially sensitive groups (ie young people, women, minorities) so they could face the anticipated consequences from the enlarge of the European Union
MARENOSTRUM MED programme, Heritage Travel along the Phoenician sea routes and historical Mediterranean ports & cities, Duration of the project: 2009-2011
C.T.U.R. “Cruise Tourism & Urban Regeneration URBACT II programme Duration of the project: 2009-2011
C.U.L.T.UR.E, “Cites Unesco Laboratoires Urbains MED programme Duration of the project: 2009-2011
MCBL Meeting Cultures beyond lines” CULTURE 2007-2013 programme Duration of the project: 2010-2011
IRH-Med, Innovative Residential Housing in the Mediterranean”, MED Programme, Duration of the project: 2010-2012
LEAP: Local authorities EMAS and Procurement (LIFE programme, 2003-2006, budget: 100.045€). The project identified the economic and the environmental benefits that arise from “Green procurement” in association with environmental management systems, such as EMAS.
SUVOT: Sustainable and Vocational Tourism (INTERREG IIIC, 2005-2008, budget: 50.000). The project aimed at the further development of the tourist industry, and the promotion of alternative ways of tourism, as well as at the strengthening of the Network Cities for Sustainable Tourism.
