UNESCO ProNatura

Our main objective after Romania's accession is to ensure that the growth of local economies and rapid infrastructure development will not affect irreversibly the integrity and functions of Natura 2000 network and that protected areas themselves will be managed in a manner adapted to the needs of local communities.

UNESCO Pro Natura is a Romanian NGO, established in 1991, having the mission to promote nature conservation and sustainable development in Romania in connection with UNESCO principles and programs in the field of environmental protection. It is done through planning and management activities in protected areas; ecological education and raising public awareness regarding the protected areas and biodiversity and promoting rural development of local communities living in or around protected areas. UNESCO Pro Natura works at a national level, having over 100 members from all over the country.
