Apostoli was founded in 2010 by the Archdiocese of Athens and all Greece as a non-governmental organization operating at a national and international level with an emphasis on the developing countries. Apart of its nationwide area of activities, which are primarily targeted toward sustainable development, social integration, capacity-building and the care of the socially vulnerable, it designs and plans to implement a variety of humanitarian projects in Africa and Southeastern Europe. Moreover, it self-finances and operates 10 hostels, day centers and health mobile units in Athens, Greece and nationwide for the socially vulnerable, such as the mentally-ill, Alzheimer patients, Down-syndrome patients, refugees as well as children and youth. On one hand, its social, humanitarian and development work within Greece is supported by its close collaboration and co-financing of the Ministry of Employment, and the Ministry of Health and the European Commission; on the other hand, it self-finances food, clothing aid, medical services, pharmaceuticals, and children vaccination programmes in Greece through its network of volunteers while planning projects aiming at local development through capacity building in developing countries.


 The social and financial strengthening of the socially vulnerable and unprivileged and the improvement of their living conditions through the provision of any possible moral and material assistance and support
 The organization, establishment and operation of social care services (protected apartments, shelters, counseling etc) for the de-institutionalization of:
-people suffering from mental illnesses
-people with disabilities
-persons facing social exclusion
-victims of gender-based violence
-victims of trafficking
 The effort to pursue international cooperation with credible bodies of civil society such as non-government organizations (NGO΄s), Local Development Bodies, Local Authorities and their affiliated organizations, Universities, research centers, agricultural cooperatives, the private sector, and others in developing countries in order to substantially improve the financial and social status of their residents and reduce poverty. Such cooperation shall be extended to cover areas of urgent humanitarian aid.
 The development of developing areas in Greece and other parts of the world with regions and countries in the Middle East, Southeastern Europe and Africa.
 The implementation of activities in the critical areas of human rights, social care, education and training, equal rights and opportunities, culture, and the environment.
 The undertaking of projects and individual activities undertaken by civil society organizations, especially by NGOs, in institution building, capacity building, the integration of the socially vulnerable into the labor market, the improvement of women΄s access to labor and local development initiatives, as well as know-how exchange to the local residents.
 The promotion of culture through the development of relevant institutions, such as museums, cultural centers, restoration workshops, and exchange visits.
 The organization of training programmes and seminars aiming at the promotion and improvement of cultural heritage especially architecture, fine and decorative arts
 The scientific training and research in the fields of health in general as well as mental health, psychiatry, psychology, sociology and social psychiatry and psychotherapy. To this end, on top of training activities aiming at raising awareness and improving the scientific level of therapists, special seminars and sensitizations events are organized for third parties.
 The publication of books, newspapers, magazines, CD-ROMs.

As part of its activity in areas of social care and cohesion, health care, culture, environment and new technologies through a wide range of humanitarian and development initiatives, Apostoli (Mission):
• records and provides reliable and continuously updated information on the needs of the Archdiocese of Athens in developing countries
• designs and submits recommendations to national, European and international organizations
• coordinates, manages and implements approved activities and projects
• provides emergency and regular humanitarian aid to Greece and abroad
• implements development initiatives and projects in Greece and in developing countries
• plans, manages and implements training programs for vulnerable groups, immigrants and workers
• cooperates with national and international bodies

Along with the activation at national level, Apostoli has already developed, and is expanding cooperation with international actors in order to enhance its humanitarian and social profile as well as to acquire and exchange expertise. Apostoli is a member of the NGOs with a consultative status to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

Through the ECOSOC, Apostoli seeks to promote expansion of cooperation at international level and to participate actively in the dialogue addressing significant issues that are jointly tackled by governments with representatives of civil society, such as human rights, casualties from conflicts (support to infrastructure rehabilitation, economic recovery, destruction of cultural wealth etc.), AIDS, child labor and prostitution, trafficking, climate change, water quality in both developing and developed countries etc.

Along with the ECOSOC’s NGO membership, Apostoli is a member of European Commission’s EuropeAid NGO networks, and it cooperates with governmental and non-governmental agencies in different countries (Local Authorities, Universities, research centers, NGO’s etc.).

Type of partner/expertise sought

Apostoli (Mission) is looking for a partner whose main area of interest is children and youth in terms of providing capacity building, training, recreational occupation therapy, stimulation of their individual capacities and acknowledgement of skills. Partners should have an experience on initiatives toward social inclusion either through education and training as well as counceling especially to children or/and their families. Partners should also be familiar with humanitarian aid along with development interventions to the socially vulnerable, and be willing to initiate a best practice and know how exchange with APOSTOLI.
